How To Clean Your Acrylic Box?

Acrylic Box

Routinely cleaning your acrylic box will aid in its longevity and keep it looking its best for as long as possible.

Acrylic boxes are an easy way to organize items because they allow one to clearly see what they contain. Sometimes, however, the viewing experience is negatively impacted by dirty acrylic surfaces due to a variety of factors such as dust particles in the air, oils from fingertips, and air currents. It is natural for acrylic case surfaces to become slightly fuzzy if they have not been cleaned in a while.

Choosing a Cleaner

You want to choose a cleaner that is specifically designed for cleaning plexiglass, plastic, or acrylic. These will be non-abrasive and ammonia-free.

NEVER use Windex, glass cleaner, or other ammonia-based products for cleaning acrylic. They are not designed to clean acrylic and can permanently damage your display case due to their acidic nature.

NEVER use vinegar-based products for cleaning acrylic. Just like glass cleaners, the acidic nature of vinegar will permanently damage your acrylic. Mild soap and water can be used as a natural way to clean acrylic

Your ideal cleaning cloth should be non-abrasive, absorbent, and lint-free. A microfiber cleaning cloth is the best way to clean acrylic because it meets these conditions.

NEVER use paper towels or kitchen/bathroom towels for cleaning acrylic because they are abrasive and will scratch acrylic.

If you are looking for a natural method for cleaning acrylic, use a soft cotton cloth (such as a diaper) that can be substituted. Make sure it is not rayon or polyester cloth as they can leave scratches.

Cleaning Your Acrylic

For spot cleaning, you can simply use window cleaner with a soft cotton cloth.

For thorough cleaning, you may use a small amount of soap and lukewarm water. Rinse and dry with a soft cotton cloth.

To get rid of sticky residue possibly leftover from paper masking, simply allow the product to soak in warm water to loosen the residue so that it's easier to clean off.

Basic Maintenance

Dusting regularly, typically every other week depending on the environment, will keep your case shining and ensure buildup does not accumulate. We recommend lightly dusting the outside surfaces of the case with a clean, soft microfiber cloth. Never use the same cloth that you clean other household items with, as cloth can retain dirt, particles, oils, and chemical residues that may scratch or damage your case.

Also, be very careful that the case does not come in contact with heavy or abrasive objects on or around it. Over time, leaning heavy items can scratch glass or acrylic.

Before using any cleaning or maintenance agent for the acrylic case, test the product on a small non-visible area. Also, if you are using cleaning sprays, to prevent over-spray onto the glass, acrylic, or your collector item, be sure to spray on a cloth and then carefully rub onto the area you are treating.
